Tee Max
British-born photographer and documentarian telling analogue stories in a digital age.
Biography
A camera, a journey, and an archive brought back into view.
The photography journey of Alder White, known to his contemporaries as Tee Max, began with a trip abroad at age eleven and a camera loaned by his mother. The experience gave him a new perspective on the world, and by the turn of the 90s he had bought his first camera and begun shooting for music magazines.
Over the course of a decade he documented the rise of Hip Hop and R&B, photographing artists before the machinery of fame fully set around them. His wider archive also moves through models, lifestyle, architecture, street encounters and artistic scenery, always led by atmosphere and instinct.
After stepping away from photography in the early 2000s, circumstances eventually brought the camera back into view. That renewed mission now spans exhibitions of his three-decade-old archive, new personal work, commissions, projects and mentoring for aspiring photographers and creatives.
